Where We Began

When the Foundation was established, our purpose was to partner with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., San Francisco Alumnae Chapter to continue its mission to educate and share the skills, education and resources of its members throughout our communities through public service.  Each year, the chapter organized and implemented programs that encompassed its five-point programmatic thrust of service initiatives for the community.

Additionally, we were fundraising not only to cover the costs of our philanthropic programs but also to invest into commercial property that could provide space for community programs, projects, meetings, social gatherings and other non-profit organizations in need of its use for little or no cost.

Serving Our Communities

Past efforts implemented in conjunction with San Francisco Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. include:

  • Providing regular meals and supplies to the Providence Shelter, Social Action Forums

  • Holding a forum for the community to learn about local and national issues that may have a direct impact on them.

  • Giving support to Rafiki house and La Casa De Las Madres.

  • Proudly providing continuous scholarships to many deserving students during their college careers.

How We Function Today

In 2015 the National organization mandated that all Foundations associated with local Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. chapters must operate as separate entities.  As a result, the Foundation was faced with determining if it wanted to continue to exist as a standalone organization.  The Foundation Board of Directors unanimously voted to continue as a separate organization.

During the past three years, the Foundation has focused on continuing to build a robust organization.  Today, the San Francisco Alumnae Delta Community Foundation has 10 board directors, and continues to conduct all activities in accordance with its 501(c)(3) status.  Our mission is to continue providing scholarships to those seeking graduate education, partnering with like-minded organizations to foster programs to the youth throughout San Francisco Bay Area communities.
